'RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT': 2009
Red deer antler and earth pigments
8cms wide 9cms long x 1.5cms deep

I have a box full of bits of Red Deer antler in my workshop. I decided to try to make a bone pin and got immersed in the creative exploration. Call this 'Research and Development' and you encapsulate the fundamental human need to experiment with materials. I was able to make a lovely functioning bone 'safety pin' which was element one in this piece. I then started to experiment with rings of antler after removing the centre bone fibre. I ended up with four locking puzzle elements that can be worn as jewellery.

A group of artefacts. Who made them? Why were they made? What do they mean? What do they tell us?
