NIGEL BRIDGES cabinetmaker and artist craftsman

BOTTLE TOP LAMP: 2001
Painted MDF (base surfaces also textured with plaster) and river washed bottle tops from the River Tweed
37" high x 9" x 9"
£600 (UK delivery £50)

The effect of the river's action has been to sandblast the glass. When illuminated the lamp gives a lovely diffused light with lots of subtle shades of green.   Fitted with a 130 watt energy saving bulb.

NOTE: Johannes Itten, the definitive colour theorist of the 20th Century, spent his life exploring the visual, psychological and aesthetic mysteries of colour. I designed this piece to use yellow and red and followed Itten's observation that yellow, having a stronger light value should occupy a smaller area than red. Harmonious area ratio approx. 1 to 2.
I fixed the ratio at 1 to 1.8 on this piece. My own observation is that texture and illumination affect this relationship.
