Words play an important part in my applied work. Logically, text can stand alone, as work, in its own right. Economy of expression interests me. When you can only carve, on average, four letters an hour you are not inclined to be verbose. Most of my work in this vein has appeared in very small quantities on cards and a few self printed booklets. I have always enjoyed experimenting with different papers and printing is an important part of the process.
Exhibition opportunities are limited but I feel this work is important. I am happy to discuss individually signed prints and small runs of cards.

I love words and the effects that the order in which they are used have on the meaning. Dictionaries, thesauruses almanacs and books of lists fascinate me.
Undoubtedly, I have been influenced by Ian Hamilton Finlay and I found The Enlarged Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1913) a fascinating stimulus. I love Norman MacCaig and George MacKay Brown - Hugh MacDiarmid is a challenge but fantastically rewarding. I have always liked Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Charles Bukowski.
I have a vast quantity of poetry books covering Burns to
Betjeman.
Douglas Dunn's The Donkey's Ears was a recent work I really enjoyed.
I love the sheer daftness of John Hegley.
